Stille Strøm

It is Sunday, and whatever mental or physical hangovers you have accumulated during Strøm are getting dangerously close to the return to your day job. What do you do? A solution could be to spend one of the sunnier days in recent times on Ofelia Beach, where the renowned Danish alternative radio show Det Elektroniske Barometer curates an afternoon of ”Quiet Strøm.” That turned out to be the strategy of choice for a fair number of Copenhageners. And okay, that thing about the hangovers might not apply to the toddlers chasing soap bubbles, but that’s beside the point. Read More »

Friday in Enghaveparken

At Strøm, Friday marks the end of all the meta-musical events and the beginning of the festival’s cornerstone concerts at Enghaveparken. For the always compelling price of nothing, Copenhagen’s music enthusiasts are invited to join the fun with acts like Jatoma, Egyptrixx, Space Dimension Controller, and Pional playing sets in the evening hours.

For an artist with only a few buzzed-about releases, Lone had accumulated a surprising amount of hype for his Strøm appearance. Surprising mainly because his music is vastly different from most of the other acts on the bill. But then again, there isn’t a lot of music that compares to Lone’s on any level. In true minimalist fashion, his stage presence was little more than Cutler himself, an array of equipment, and the first PC I’ve seen at a concert in a while. For me, the most striking thing about the concert was just how many layers Cutler operates with. Everything is stacked, twisted, and glued together, and while the mixing was… primal, my overall impression was definitely positive. As bass music gets increasingly sophisticated, hearing something that went straight for the guts turned out to be a welcome change. Read More »

Friday updates

The day we have all been waiting for is finally here! Two days of free open-air music – and it all starts this very afternoon. The many recommendations from our booking core and our two bloggers Going Other Places and Regnsky are still here on the site, and as usual: keep an eye out for yesterday’s pictures and the upcoming blog features.

Enghaveparken
Asking what we haven’t lined up for you today would seem appropriate: we have the newest and most talented young producers uniting as 1st Hit Wonders. We also have Ben Westbeech, Lone, Girl Unit, Egyptrixx, Danish trio Jatoma and German techno lovers Brandt Brauer Frick. And last but not least, we are proud to present the living legends Thomas Fehlmann and Alex Paterson, whom you may also know as The Orb.

Events
Today’s events are all about the bass, when Basstard and Strøm start the night presenting a showcase of underground bass culture in the city of Elsinore. Later today in Copenhagen’s Meat Packing District, Rewind invites us all to this year’s biggest bass clash with special UK artist Mensah.

We have reached the friend limit on our Facebook profile, so please ‘like’ our new page and get all the best updates from this and upcoming Strøm festivals.

Det Elektroniske Stamtræ

It didn’t strike me until I was on my way home just how ungrateful a feat compiling the history of electronic music to a 90-minute lecture is. Where to start? What to include? What to leave out? In hindsight and from the safety of the crowd, it is always easier to be wisecracking, but just thinking about the extent of that job made me glad I was not about to embark on the same journey as Ralf Christensen.
